In the form of smoked skipjack, a seasoning indispensable to Japanese cooking, or in a fresh form, skipjack tuna enriches the Japanese cuisine. TAFCO operates five (5) far seas purse-seiners out of total thirty five (35) Japanese purse-seiners in the pacific fishing grounds all year round and, helped by rich resources of skipjack tuna, undertakes to fulfill its responsibility for securing stable supply to the world market.
However, to avoid the depletion of limited natural resources and to develop domestic tuna fisheries of the actual state of the tuna resources in the western and central Pacific, fishing condition is becoming more difficult these days. As the skipjack tuna resources in the Pacific is said to be still in a relatively robust status, it became necessary to take stock management measures and to improve fishing devices more efficient. Under the circumstances, TAFCO, as the pioneer who exploited tuna resources in the western and central Pacific, built new and higher catch efficient large-size purse-seiner F/V “FUJI MARU No.2” (760 tonnage type) in 2010. TAFCO are aiming for maximum sustainable yield of catch and stable supply of skipjack tuna to Japanese consumers, which can be achieved by cooperation with the development of island countries.

Our offshore purse seiner searches for schools of fish in season and in the summer delivers to the market fresh tuna caught off the coast of Japan. They also catch off the shores of Japan such favorite fish of the Japanese as horse mackerels, mackerels, sardines and yellowtails.
However, these days, resources of sardines and mackerels have been depleted in waters surrounding Japan. To catch Japan’s own marine resources efficiently and to supply them stably, it is important to promote restructuring of fisheries using fishing vessels and introduce new stabilization measures for fishery operators. TAFCO participated Fisheries plan of structural reform and built new and energy saving single type purse-seiner F/V “TAIYO MARU No.2” (415 tonnage type) in 2009. “TAIYO MARU No.2” is environment friendly and providing healthy working condition to the fishing crew while it is higher efficiency and operated with fewer fishery workers.

With a flavor loved by the people of Japan, tuna is an essential part of the Japanese diet. TAFCO helps to ensure a stable supply of tuna in a variety of ways, most notably through its involvement in deep-sea tuna long-line fishing, which dates back to 1945. We are renowned in the industry for our long experience and outstanding achievements.
Currently we have 3 tuna long-line fishing boats actively operating in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans and further afield in the waters off Ireland. As the international trend toward greater protection of resources strengthens, through our unique policy priority on cooperation and harmony, we endeavor to secure a stable supply of tuna. To ensure that the Japanese will always be able to enjoy the taste of fresh tuna, today like every other day TAFCO’s fishing boats are busy scouring the world’s oceans for this popular fish.
